How much does leak detection cost?
The honest answer is that it depends on the leak. Here's exactly how we charge, what makes a job quicker or longer, and how you'll know the cost before we start.
Two ways to pay
Hourly rate. A minimum one-hour charge, then charged in 30-minute intervals. This suits investigations where nobody can know the scope in advance.
Fixed-price investigation. One agreed price before work begins. This suits customers who want certainty, and insurance claims that need a fixed investigation fee.
Before any work starts, we'll talk through which option suits your situation, so you know exactly how you'll be charged. Call us and we'll give you a clear idea of cost for your job.
What affects the cost
- The type of leak. A dripping visible joint is quicker to confirm than a pinhole under a concrete floor.
- The property. Its size, construction and how the pipework is laid out.
- Access. Whether pipes run under floors, behind fitted kitchens or underground outside.
- Which methods are needed. Some leaks are found with thermal imaging alone. Others need pressure testing and tracer gas.
- Whether you need a report for an insurance claim.
Why finding it first saves money
Without proper detection, the usual approach is to start lifting floors or opening walls until the leak turns up. That can mean several holes, more making good, and more disruption. Pinpointing the leak first means one small, targeted repair. It also stops you paying to fix something that was never the cause.
Common questions
Do you charge if you can't find the leak?
In the vast majority of jobs we find it. On the rare occasion we can't pinpoint it, we'll tell you plainly and point you toward next steps. You're paying for our time, expertise and equipment on the day either way.
Is there a call-out charge outside your area?
We cover London, Hertfordshire and Essex. We can attend further afield subject to a travel fee, which is always confirmed with you before we set off, never added afterwards.
